Tour pro quits golf, goes to first day of work at a “real job” as 39-year-old
3rd January, 2019
Kyle Thompson, despite being on the Web.com as a winning player for 2 decades, never could quite crack the PGA tour winning circle.
Earning only $24,878 last year on the PGA tour just wasn’t enough for all the effort put in. He decided the Wyndham Championship in August would be his last tournament if he didn’t qualify for the FedEx Playoffs.
He kept to this statement.
“For some reason I haven’t had nearly the monetary success of some other guys… if you get one or two good years on the PGA Tour, it can set you up for years”, he told the media.
Instead, after 17 years as a tour pro, the 39-year-old Thompson finally settled on his first “real job” to grow a career and future for his family.
39 years old and today I’m headed in to my first day of work in a “real job.” 😁

Golf has been a roller coaster of a career and I’m very excited about my life’s next chapter with Arthur J. Gallagher! Great team & company and I’m ready to get after it! https://t.co/QGGDVWUqLi pic.twitter.com/xSSBiO8IqR
A great effort by a man who gave everything on the course but strong enough to make the switch to the “real life”. Props to you Kyle.
